Worked example
The FAQ example: closed balance $100,000 at the end of the day. Next day, equity must not drop below $95,000. Open trades count, so a floating loss of $5,000 breaches the account before you close anything.
The Australian clock
| UTC reset | Sydney, standard time (AEST) | Sydney, daylight time (AEDT) |
|---|---|---|
| 00:00 | 10:00 | 11:00 |
A trader who starts at 08:00 Sydney time is still inside the previous UTC day. Losses before the reset count against yesterday's reference, losses after it against today's.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the limit is 5% of the initial balance. It is measured from the previous day's closed balance.
- Holding a loser past the reset and hoping the new day gives room. The new reference is the closed balance, and the open loss carries over.
- Trusting the plan table tooltip. It says the reference is taken at 5pm EST, while the FAQ says 00:00 UTC. We use the FAQ time; ask support which one your account uses.
